Strangers in Old School Dungeons

Issue 009

Hello Tipsy Reelz Community,

Tipsy Reelz is a monthly email, sent on the first Thursday of each month.  It will include three movies from different genres, fun facts about the movies and some drinking game rules to go with them. We will also include where these movies are currently available for streaming. Please feel free to share these with your friends.

Old School (2003) Fun Facts

  • Frank’s streaking scene was shot on a city street. As Will Ferrell remembered it, one of the storefronts was a twenty-four-hour gym with Stairmasters and treadmills in the window. "I was rehearsing in a robe, and all these people are in the gym, watching me. I asked one of the production assistants, 'Shouldn't we tell them I'm going to be naked?' Sure enough, I dropped my robe and there were shrieks of pure horror. After the first take, nobody was at the window anymore. I took that as a sign of approval."

  • Vince Vaughn had to keep the crowd at the Mitch-a-Palooza scene (over three hundred extras) under control by entertaining them for at least an hour.

  • Snoop Dogg agreed to cameo in the film so he could play Huggy Bear in Starsky & Hutch (2004). Writer and director Todd Phillips admitted to essentially bribing him, using his desire to play Huggy Bear to his advantage. "So when I went to him I said, 'I want you to do Huggy Bear,' he was really excited, and I said, 'Oh yeah, also will you do this little thing for me in Old School a little cameo?' So he kind of had to do it I think."

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) Fun Facts

  • Wizards of the Coast (which owns Dungeons and Dragons) made stat blocks for the main characters showing their abilities and attributes.

  • The film shares shooting locations with the Harry Potter series. Especially obvious during some interior scenes which are an exact match for the hallway scenes from Hogwarts.

The Strangers (2008) Fun Facts

  • The film was shot entirely with hand-held cameras or steady cams. Every shot has some camera movement.

  • According to director Bryan Bertino, the film is partially based on an incident he experienced as a child. One evening a stranger came to his door, asked for someone who was not there, and left. Later, Bertino found out that other homes in his neighborhood had been broken into that night.

  • The filmmakers tried to design the house as one that "your brother could have lived in, that you could have grown up in," in order to make the audience feel more attached to the film.

GAME RULES!

  • Drink when you see someone in a mask.

  • Drink when you hear a knock or a bang.

  • Drink when James or Kristen go outside of the house.

As of publishing, The Strangers is streaming on MAX.

Please play responsibly, know your limits, and don’t drink and drive. It’s ok if you cannot finish the game. Also feel free to drink a non-alcoholic drink, staying hydrated is a good time too!
