Hello Tipsy Reelz Community,

Tipsy Reelz is a monthly email, sent on the first Thursday of each month.  It will include three movies from different genres, fun facts about the movies and some drinking game rules to go with them. We will also include where these movies are currently available for streaming. Please feel free to share these with your friends.

Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) Fun Facts

• When they're on the mountain, a guy skis past, talking on a mobile phone, and says, "...I want my two dollars!", a reference to the deranged bike riding paperboy in Better Off Dead (1985), starring John Cusack.

• The band Poison was portrayed in the film by a Poison tribute band from Phoenix, Arizona, that went by the name of Unskinny Bop.

• If you listen to the commentary of the nature documentary Adam is watching at the beginning of the film, it foreshadows Lou puking on the squirrel after the hot tub party.

• Drink when Lou does something idiotic.

• Drink when someone says “Great White Whale”.

• Drink when Jacob flickers.

• Drink when you think the Bellhop is going to loose his arm.

Idiocracy (2006) Fun Facts

• When Joe (Luke Wilson) is being apprehended by the police in Costco, the background screens display why he is wanted: "For being a dick" "For escaping from jail" "For fucking up lots of shit".

• Nearly all of the logos for actual present-day businesses are altered in the future. The exception is the logo for FOX News, which is the logo in use by the network at the time of this film's release.

• Unsure of how to market the film after disastrous test screenings, Twentieth Century Fox sat on the nearly completed film for over a year, before finally giving it an unusually small release in only six markets (skipping over major markets such as New York City). The release was done with little to no marketing.

Totally Killer (2023) Fun Facts

• Jamie mentions the movie Back to the Future (1985) several times. This movie includes several direct or inverted allusions to that movie. For example, in Back to the Future, Marty tries to get his future parents together, while in this movie, Jamie tries to keep her future parents apart. Also like Marty, Jamie needs the help of the younger version of the genius who built the time machine to help her fix it and get her back to the future.

• The fringed white jacket worn by Jamie is very similar to the one worn by Sloane in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), directed by John Hughes.

• Jamie, Pam, and Blake have the last name Hughes. This is a nod towards director John Hughes, who directed the movie The Breakfast Club (1985), which starred Molly Ringwald, Pam's favorite actress.

• Drink when you see the killer or a time machine.

• Drink when Jaime is shocked or offended by the 80’s people.
