The Evil State Falls

Issue 018

Hello Tipsy Reelz Community,

Tipsy Reelz is a monthly email, sent on the first Thursday of each month.  It will include three movies from different genres, fun facts about the movies and some drinking game rules to go with them. We will also include where these movies are currently available for streaming. Please feel free to share these with your friends.

Speak No Evil (2024) Fun Facts

  • The story is inspired by the experiences of Christian Tafdrup, director of the original Danish Speak No Evil (2022), who had befriended a Dutch couple while on holiday in Tuscany with his wife. Although the Dutch were a bit socially awkward, both couples got along very well, and after returning home, Tafdrup received an invitation from the Dutch family to come over to the Netherlands. He briefly considered it, but decided that he would feel odd staying with people he didn't really know; his story for the movie came about when he unleashed his darkest fantasies on what could have happened, had he accepted (while maintaining that the original Dutch couple had never given off any bad vibes). In this remake, the nationalities of the two families have been changed to American and British.

  • James McAvoy stated that he purposely didn't watch the original Danish Speak No Evil (2022) before he started work on this remake, so that it wouldn't influence the interpretation of his role. He watched it within 24 hours after filming was concluded, and was very impressed.

  • Filmed mainly in Gloucester, UK, and one week of filming in Croatia.

The Fall Guy (2024) Fun Facts

  • Ryan Gosling has a fear of heights, but still did the 150-foot fall at the beginning of the movie.

  • With 8.5 car rolls called the cannon roll and on the second try, the stunt team for this movie broke the Guinness World Record of the most car rolls, (a fact which Gail actually mentions in the dialogue).

  • Ryan Gosling had a chance encounter with Steven Spielberg, who told him he loved this movie. Gosling said, "As far as I'm concerned it doesn't matter anymore what happens. Steven Spielberg liked it. That was an all time moment for me. I'm really excited for people to see it. I think it's a really special movie."

Head of State (2003) Fun Facts

  • Tina Fey was one of the five uncredited writers who did a re-write on the screenplay.

  • Chris Rock got the idea for this story from the 1984 Walter Mondale/Geraldine A. Ferraro ticket, in which the Democrats thought that since they had no chance of winning against Ronald Reagan/George Bush, they might as well make a historic first so they can win support for the next election. So they ran Ferraro as the first ever woman vice president candidate for their party (and lost).

  • Part of the presidential debate is a verbatim repeat of Monty Python's Argument Sketch from The Money Programme (1972).
