Hello Tipsy Reelz Community,

 

Tipsy Reelz is a monthly email, sent on the first Thursday of each month.  It will include three movies from different genres, fun facts about the movies and some drinking game rules to go with them. We will also include where these movies are currently available for streaming. Please feel free to share these with your friends.

Happy Gilmore 2 (2025) Fun Facts

  • The entire Sandler family makes appearances in this film. Sunny Sandler plays Vienna, his daughter in the movie. Her older sister Sadie Sandler plays Charlotte, a member of the support group. And Adam's wife Jackie plays Vienna's ballet teacher.

  • Benny Safdie who plays Frank Manatee (the CEO of Maxi Energy Drink and sponsor of Maxi Golf) directed Sandler in the film Uncut Gems, one of Sandlers most critically acclaimed films.

  • 'Maxi' is similar to the Saudi-funded LIV Golf League, advertised as a new, more exciting and louder version of professional golf.

Pulp Fiction (1994) Fun Facts

  • The movie cost only $8 million to make. The initial budget was reportedly even lower until Bruce Willis was added to the cast. Five million dollars went to pay the actors' and actresses' salaries. The film was already profitable when its worldwide rights were sold for $11 million. It went on to gross over $200 million at the box office.

  • Jules flipping the table over in the beginning was improvised by Samuel L. Jackson, and Frank Whaley's reaction was genuine, but they continued with the scene, and that particular shot was done in one take.

  • This movie and The Shawshank Redemption (1994) opened on the same date, October 14, 1994. Both were nominated for seven Academy Awards, with this movie winning for Best Original Screenplay. Both movies gained cult status in the following years, and are listed in the top ten in IMDb's top 250 movies (as of March 2023).

The Monkey (2025) Fun Facts

  • According to the director, the decision to have the monkey bang a drum instead of cymbals was due to the rights to the cymbal-banging version being owned by The Walt Disney Company, as the toy had appeared as a character in Toy Story 3. The cymbal monkey was in Toy Story 3 in the first place because its director Lee Unkrich is a fan of Stephen King.

  • The father of the two main characters is said to have gone out for cigarettes one day and never came back, which is exactly what the father of Stephen King, the author of the story, did.

  • Osgood Perkins revealed his approach to the material: "I took liberties like a motherf*cker. They [Atomic Monster] had a very serious script. I felt it was too serious, and I told them: 'This doesn't work for me. The thing with this toy monkey is that the people around it all die in insane ways. So, I thought: Well, I'm an expert on that.' Both my parents died in insane, headline-making ways. I spent a lot of my life recovering from tragedy, feeling quite bad. It all seemed inherently unfair. You personalize the grief: 'Why is this happening to me?' But I'm older now and you realize this shit happens to everyone. Everyone dies. Sometimes in their sleep, sometimes in truly insane ways, like I experienced. But everyone dies. And I thought maybe the best way to approach that insane notion is with a smile.”
